This fried cheese is often served for breakfast and sometimes even as an appetizer. Halloumi has a great brine flavor with texture that holds up to frying.

  • 6 oz. halloumi cheese
  • 1 TB. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium Persian cucumber, sliced
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 10 fresh mint leaves


Slice halloumi cheese into 4 equal slices. Layer 2 paper towels, lay out cheese on the paper towels, let it dry for 3 minutes. Turn over cheese, and let dry for 3 more minutes.

Preheat a nonstick pan over medium-low heat. Add extra-virgin olive oil and cheese slices, and cook for 4 minutes per side or until golden brown.

Arrange cheese on a plate with sliced Persian cucumber, sliced tomato, and fresh mint leaves. Enjoy with pita bread.

[b]Halloumi cheese[/b] is an unripened brined cheese that originated in Cyprus and is very popular in Greece, Turkey, and Lebanon. It has a high melting point, so it's great for frying or grilling.
